Karen Timson’s fragrances are solely created by Karen herself.
Here I am - Karen Timson, your friendly and approachable perfumer - standing in my perfume lab. These high quality perfumery materials are what I use to compose beautiful fragrances that will touch your soul and speak to you.
Do you ever wonder who exactly is creating the perfumes of a brand? Is it a team of perfumers, each with their own opinions on what makes a great fragrance? Or, more worryingly, is it maybe a group of investors wanting to jump on a trend to make lots of money? And the last one happens more often than you might think.
Here at Karen Timson Fragrance, I’ve decided to make it abundantly, crystal clear that the creative perfumer behind my distinctive fragrances is me. Me and only me. All the inspiration and creativity comes from me; my memories, my favourite perfumery materials and the stories I want to tell.
The importance of transparency and integrity in perfumery
Here’s my range of Karen Timson Fine Fragrances. All created by me from the first flash of inspiration to the end products you see bottled here.So why am I telling you this? Well, I feel that you have a right to know. Transparency and integrity are important to me. I don’t want to hide behind ‘we’ in my business - perhaps implying I’m part of a team - because I’m happy to explain my very own original inspiration and creative process to you. It’s my unique vision for my perfumes; my undiluted, uncompromising, raw passion for my craft that you experience in my perfumes.
And, as it’s me who makes all the decisions at KTF, that means I can answer your questions about my perfumes. I don’t need to pass them onto a team of folk who have a bank of cut-and-paste answers, I can explain, for example, why I use a certain perfumery material myself. So, if you’re looking for a helpful perfumer, you’ve come to the right place!
The magic of being an approachable perfumer
Even in my lab coat I can’t resist a touch of fun with that rose in my hair! Here I am holding Rosa de Rio, which is just one of my fine fragrances.Being an approachable perfumer can be such fun for both of us. I’ve had the most magical times with clients, seeing their eyes light up when they try my perfumes. Hearing their words when they feel an emotional connection with one of my perfumes is incredibly powerful. Because that’s what making art and being a human is all about, isn’t it? Making beautiful connections with people.
Sharing stories, inspiring each other, and lifting each other up.Confusingly though, some fragrance houses are branded and marketed to look as though they’re independently owned by the perfumer. The interest in niche perfumery is huge these days, and bigger companies have worked out that they can entice customers to buy by appearing to seem more unique, hand-made and small-scale than they really are. Sadly, some of these brands are owned by enormously wealthy multi-national corporations just interested in making money, not at all bothered about creating exciting and original perfumes for you to fall in love with.
Fine fragrance is art
Because that's what we are looking for in a perfume isn't it? Perfume is art, and great art moves us. Makes us feel all kinds of things. Excited and optimistic perhaps? Nostalgic and comforted at other times. Maybe tranquil and relaxed at others.
So, when you wear one of my perfumes, it's like having a conversation with me. You don't get that with a perfume made by a huge manufacturer, do you?
Now you know a little bit about me, how about taking a peek at my fragrance collection? My discovery set of 2ml sample sprays includes 5 out 6 of my beautiful fragrances. You get to choose which 5, and you even get a secret code which offers you 10% off when you buy your first full bottle.
I wonder one which one will enchant you the most...
